Why use LegalValidate for remove pdf metadata
See what it is carrying first
The Info tab lists author, producer, creation and modification times before you remove anything.
Both layers cleared
The document properties and the XMP packet behind them — clearing only the first is the common mistake.
Verify afterwards
Check the Info tab again on the cleaned version to confirm the fields are actually empty.
The content is untouched
Only the metadata is removed; the pages are exactly as they were.
When you need this
- A draft is going to the other side and should not name the partner who wrote it.
- A tender submission must not reveal which template it came from.
- Timestamps would show the document was prepared before a meeting it was supposed to follow.
- A file is being published and the internal file path is in the producer field.
What this tool will not do
- This clears document metadata. It does not remove content from inside the pages — text hidden behind an image, tracked changes converted into the PDF, or comments are still there.
- It does not anonymise a scanned signature or anything visible on the page.
- Unlike the single-purpose tools, the workspace holds your upload while you work on it. It is deleted automatically about two hours after your last change, and you can delete it yourself at any time.
Remove PDF metadata — questions
What metadata does a PDF carry? +
Usually the author name, the software that produced it, and creation and modification timestamps — often including the name of whoever exported it and sometimes the file path on their machine.
Does this make the document anonymous? +
No. It removes the metadata, not the content. Anything visible on the page — a letterhead, a signature, a name in the text — is still visible.
Is my document stored? +
Yes, and only here. The workspace keeps your upload so you can make several changes without sending the file again, and deletes it automatically about two hours after your last change. The single-purpose tools store nothing at all.
Can I undo a mistake? +
Yes. Every operation creates a new version and undo, redo and reset are always available. Nothing you do is destructive until the session expires.
What can I upload? +
A PDF, a Word .docx, or an image. Word files and photos are converted to PDF on the way in so every operation works on every upload.
